Southern West Jutland

Theme: Bird life in the Wadden Sea and the marshlands

Beaks & Breaks recommend a four-day mini-holiday with birding trips in southern West Jutland in and around the Danish Wadden Sea , where birds land and gather before migrating to their breeding areas in the far north in spring, and south to their overwintering areas in autumn. The Wadden Sea is of international importance as a staging area for many species of ducks, geese and wading birds. It is estimated that between ten and twelve million birds stop over in the Wadden Sea every year. Birdwatching in southern West Jutland includes driving around on forest roads and lanes to see birds from the car. Watching birds in the area from places with an uninterrupted view over the tidal flats or the beach is highly recommended. The waders are best seen when the tide is coming in with an onshore wind.

Period: Autumn excursion: from the end of August to and including October

Spring excursion: April and May.
