Visiting and Access
On Route 11, turn off west on Route 423 to Lønborg for 4 km. Take a right for back tracking into Skjern, but first passing across the Skjern Å Valley. During restoration, accessibility for nature enthusiasts wasn’t forgotten, and there are numerous car parks with info, and maps, from where paths for walkers, cyclists and horse riders can explore these extensive wetlands.
Several bird towers have been established, the large one on the Lønborg Skjern road has even access for wheelchair users. There are picnic areas with tables, benches and even some barbeque sites. Small “ferries” hand pulled by means of rope, let the visitor cross the river at several places.
In Tourist offices in the nearby towns a free folder with map of the Skjern Å Valley can be had. Skjern Egvad Museum has established several historic sites in the area around the Skjern Å Valley where information concerning activities such as workshops, walks, riding, fishing, canoeing etc. are on offer. Skjern Egvad Museum also has an exhibition about the Skjern River Valley project at 73 Bredgade, Skjern, open daily from April 1st until 31st September. From September 1st until March 31st it is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, when opening hours are 11.00 am – 17.00 pm. Admission is free.
